The School of Music at East Carolina offers you degrees that provide intensive study in the area of instrumental conducting. You may select orchestral or wind instrument tracks.

The MM, concentration in Instrumental Conducting, is designed for the outstanding musician who aspires to career as an instrumental conductor at the high school or college level. The curriculum consists of weekly conducting seminars that focus on literature, technique and the art of rehearsing. You will perform in the major university ensembles and meet weekly with conducting faculty for individual coaching. A substantial recital piece with a major ensemble is an expectation.

Graduate Assistantships are available on a yearly basis. Regular podium time with university ensembles is considered an important aspect of the conducting curriculum. Please see application material and relevant catalogues for specific audition requirements and due dates.
