2022 SPRING CONCERT SEASON
DURWARD ENSEMBLE
Featuring WORLD PREMIERE by ECU Alum Nia Imani Franklin

NC NewMusic Initiative continues its 22nd season with a Guest Artist Residency by the Durward Ensemble, a chamber group specializing in diverse contemporary music, creating “experiences that celebrate creativity and develop a community-based commitment to new music.”
This program will feature the WORLD PREMIERE of a joint Durward/ NC NewMusic Initiative commission by ECU School of Music Alum Nia Imani Franklin.
In addition to the concert, members of Durward will engage with our music students through as series of master classes, career seminars, and a composition reading session/ workshop featuring music by ECU student composers, written specifically for the ensemble. In its twenty years of virtuosic performances and daring programming, the composer/performer collective counter)induction, hailed by the NY Times for its “fiery ensemble virtuosity,” has established itself as a force of excellence in contemporary music.
This program will feature a new collaborative work (Ars Poetica) between composer Douglas Boyce and poet Marlanda Dekine.
In addition to this concert, counter)induction will engage with our music students through as series of master classes, career seminars, and a composition reading session/ workshop featuring music by ECU student composers, written specifically for the ensemble.

Please join us for the WORLD PREMIERE of Ipseity, an NC NewMusic Initiative Commission by composer Asha Srinivasan. This piece is the latest product of our multi-year commissioning cycle. The concert will feature the ECU Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. James Franklin.
