“The Friends of the School of Music believe in assuring the quality of an already outstanding music program at East Carolina University. Through the help of memberships and through attendance at our annual Gala, we raise funds to guarantee attractive and necessary scholarships that draw the best talent to the School of Music. In combination with our already top-notch faculty we can provide the community and surrounding area with the best music students, teachers, and performers in the East!”

About the “Friends”…
The Friends of the School of Music was established in 1981 to raise scholarship dollars for talented and needy music students. Since that time the organization has contributed over $400,000 to the education of over 500 students. In addition, the Board established a scholarship endowment which now exceeds $50,000, and over the years has assisted in developing endowed scholarships named in the memory of John L. Howard, Donna Dease, Brett Watson, Alexandra Gaines Kittrell and in honor of Herbert L. Carter that are valued at an additional $240,000. Members of the Friends are kept informed of activities in the School of Music and are invited to attend special events throughout the year, including a benefit gala in the winter and a showcase recital and reception in the spring.
