Donald J. Palmire
Dr. Donald Palmire, Teaching Assistant Professor of Euphonium at East Carolina University, has been an active euphonium soloist, clinician, and educator for more than thirty years. He began his professional performing career as a euphoniumist with The Marine Corps Recruit Depot Band at Parris Island, SC in 1980.
While a member of the Recruit Depot Band, Don was a regularly featured soloist. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, Don attended Florida Community College and The University of South Florida. He served as a euphoniumist with The United States Marine Band “The President’s Own” from 1987 to 1991. From 1992 until 1994, he was a euphoniumist with The Dallas Wind Symphony.
Dr. Palmire holds a Doctor of Music Education degree from Liberty University, a Master of Music degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther Rice Seminary.
Palmire served in The United States Army Band Pershing’s Own from 1994 until 2016. He began his tenure in Pershing’s Own as a member of the Ceremonial Band and became a member of the Concert Band in 2002. He served as Principal Euphonium in the Concert Band as well as Chairman of The United States Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop.
Don served as the Principal Euphonium with the Royal Hawaiian Band from 2018 until 2021. He has performed with The U.S. Army Brass Band, The U.S. Army Orchestra, The U.S. Army Brass Quintet, The Dominion Brass, The Coastal Communities Concert Band, The Virginia Grand Military Band, The Maryland Symphony, The Harrisburg Symphony, and The Sarasota Orchestra. Additionally, Don has performed recitals and masterclasses for the United States Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop, the North East Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference, The South East Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conference, the International Euphonium-Tuba Institute, and The University of Memphis Low Brass Workshop. In 2014 Don released his solo debut double CD entitled, “Amber and Musk.” He is an Adams Performing Artist.
