Asha Srinivasan, April 11-12, 2022

We are pleased to welcome composer Asha Srinivasan back to ECU for the WORLD PREMIERE of NC NewMusic Initiative Commission, Ipseity by the ECU Chamber Singers (James Franklin, Director) on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 7:30pm (AJ Fletcher Recital Hall, Free Admission). This work is the latest product of our multi-year Commissioning Program. In addition to the premiere performance and recording of this new work, Dr. Srinivasan will be presenting to our music theory classes and offering lessons to our student composers.

About Asha:

Indian-American composer Asha Srinivasan draws from her Western musical training and Indian heritage to create her compositional language. Her music has been presented at various national and international venues, and it has been discussed in dissertations and scholarly work. Her works have been released on CD by Ablaze Records, Mark Records, Beauport Classical, and SEAMUS CD Series (vol. 22). From 2016-18, she served on the board of the American Composers Forum and served as panel judge in 2017 and 2018 for the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2012, she co-hosted the SEAMUS national conference at Lawrence University.
