Adrienne C. Steiner-Brett
Adrienne C. Steiner-Brett (Ph.D., Florida State University, M.M., University of Kentucky and B.A (music [flute], cognitive science) is assistant professor of music therapy at East Carolina University. Her research interests include the use of music therapy to address informal caregivers of those with various health needs, the use of mindfulness-based interventions within music therapy clinical practice and patient-and family-centered care. Steiner-Brett is still an active clinician and supervisor working in early intervention, children and adults with exceptionalities and adolescent and adult mental health specifically substance misuse. Prior to completing her doctoral studies, Steiner-Brett was lecturer and clinical coordinator at the University of Louisville’s music therapy clinic where she worked with patients of a variety of ages and diagnoses as well as supervised practicum students and interns. Steiner-Brett has presented regionally, nationally and internationally (World Congress of Music Therapy in Japan 2017; World Congress of Music Therapy in South Africa, 2020). She is published in several journals including Arts in Psychotherapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, Dialogues in Music Therapy Education, Journal of Aging and Social Policy, and International Journal of Healthcare. She is passionate about expanding music therapy throughout Eastern North Carolina and has been instrumental in the establishment of the first on-campus music therapy clinic (MTC@ECU) in the ENC and first in the UNC System.
