School of Music Scholarships

The School of Music has the privilege of awarding over $300,000 annually to students majoring in music.  These funds are made possible by a rich history of generous donations to the school.  Endowments for scholarships and other purposes now total over $11 million.

Scholarship awards are determined by a School of Music faculty committee and based on the School of Music admission audition, academic merit or the student’s chosen area of study.  Most scholarships are renewable and require the recipient to be a music major maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA in their music courses.

Chauncey Scholarship Endowment

The Chauncey Scholarship Endowment was established in 2020 upon the execution of the estate of ECU Professor Emeritus Beatrice Chauncey, professor of flute from 1949 to 1990.  Ms. Chauncey’s gift, now worth approximately $6.4 million, is exclusively dedicated to student scholarships and is the is the largest donation ever by an ECU faculty member.  Her gift nearly doubled the value of the School of Music’s endowments and, when fully executed, will increase the school’s annual scholarship spending to over $500,000.

University Scholarships

As soon as they are accepted by the university, students should create an ECUAWards scholarship portal account with the Office of University Scholarships. Within the portal students can search for and in some cases auto-match with scholarships. University scholarships are announced in January each year. Create an ECUAWard Scholarship Portal account and re-activate it each year to continue to be considered for university scholarships.
